Dornoch 2019

We arrived safely home yesterday afternoon. We set off from Dornoch around 0730 and came in to Harrogate around 1600. It was dark when we set off and it was dark when we arrived home. But, it was great to be back in the Highlands of Scotland – Dornoch is a place loaded with memories. It was quite weird walking around thinking “Oh, Granny would …” at every memory prompt. Yet it was quite a…

Dornoch Adventures 2016 – Pt II

Fun and games at the moment. As people may know I have malaria type symptoms coupled with complex post traumatic stress disorder. So, inevitably, these holiday plans took a back burner as I took on more work…

Dornoch beach is a beautiful expanse of golden sand located on the tranquil Dornoch Firth. Miles of golden sand stretch from Dornoch Point heading past Embo beach to the mouth of Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve. Further north along the coast there are two other award-winning beaches located at Golspie and Brora. Adjacent to the beach is a Site of Special Scientific Interest that features nesting birds, flora and fauna. This fine long blue flag…

Dornoch 2015

I have the good fortune to have a lovely Gran living in the Highlands of Scotland. Granny lives a stones throw from Dornoch Cathedral. Dornoch is a town and seaside resort, and former Royal burgh in the Highlands of Scotland. It lies on the north shore of the Dornoch Firth, near to where it opens into the Moray Firth to the east. The town is within the Highland local government council area, and within the county of Sutherland. The name ‘Dornoch’ is derived from the Gaelic for ‘pebbly place’,…
