I thought a quick mid-bank holiday re-rub is in order. Last night, the Saturday of the May Day Bank Holiday, was gig night.
Major Tom’s hosted the event. I was the first there and played roots reggae for a good forty minutes. Scoob kept his appointment and played his first paid gig – something he is very proud abut. It has been a pleasure see the man grow from aspirational DJ to semi-pro DJ all the time playing music that he loves.
I suppose that is the benefit of being Semi-Pro, as a DJ; you can pick and choose your gigs. If it is not what you want to play then there is no need for you to sell out.
Scoob played some world music and I followed with a pounding Dub set – it was good to get out playing again.
Ry Kennedy followed with a blistering Acid House set which was something else.
Then it turned a bit commercial and the (newly) seasoned head Scoob said it was not his bag. Still, people were dancing and beer was being sold. So, it was good for the venue, Major Tom’s.
I am a bit sore that I did not get to hear the DnB set that ended the night, Kathryn needed to go home and anyway, we had had our fill. We walked Scoob back as far as we could and he was loving every minute.
Safe home, I went about the busy task of sleeping.
I have been doing a lot of the sleep lately – I put in 18 hours today; could be long Covid, probably just being lazy.
Either way, it is a great ‘reset’ button and I get a lot from sleeping. My sleep has been disrupted lately, though – I get it in two hour segments at a time. So, last night I woke up nine times and in strange circumstances, having walked there, half asleep.
I have spent the day trying not to watch Britain’s Got Talent (the cultural nadir of Britain) and surfing the web – a plain lazy day.
The pick of the web is www.medievalmemes.org
I am trying to use the internet to its fullest – avoiding the honeypot sites, such as Facebook, and using the web to it’s fullest potential.
I suggest you should, too…
There is a whole heap of amazing content that you would not find on your echo chamber – Fb. There are sites and sounds that you need to experience.
What will the rest of the weekend hold?
I need to pop to Major Tom’s Social to pick up my decks and I have also acquired a Drummer From Another Mother – this is proving a lot of fun and it is practically an ‘instant gratification machine’ with whatever setting I have it at providing the best bleeps and bass I have heard.
